johnedwinmason Music that whispers more often than it shouts. Brilliant from start to finish. The interplay between the three musicians is fantastic. The improvising is inspired.

about

A unique trio led by leading jazz French horn player Jim Rattigan, alongside violinist Thomas Gould and acclaimed jazz pianist Liam Noble, on an album of original compositions.
Jim explains the idea behind the album: "The magical sound combination of horn, violin and piano is used in classical music and I wanted to introduce the jazz world to this highly original instrumentation. Whilst on a tour with the jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and the Britten Sinfonia, I met Thomas Gould who was keen to be part of this project and I knew that Liam Noble would be perfect. Having got together a trio I was inspired to start writing for these great musicians."

Jim Rattigan has performed all over the world both as a jazz soloist and a member of various jazz groups, such as those led by Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden/Carla Bley, McCoy Tyner, Django Bates and Brad Mehldau. Jim has played on numerous film scores including several James Bond movies, Lord Of The Rings, Batman, The Bourne Ultimatum, Moulin Rouge, Shrek and many more. He has also worked with many pop artists, including Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Natalie Cole, Paul McCartney, George Michael, Pulp, Barry Manilow, Damon Albarn, Adele and Paloma Faith.

about

Jim Rattigan London, UK

"Jim Rattigan plays the French horn and before turning to jazz played in leading symphony orchestras. Rattigan is also a composer with a canny approach when it comes to combining the sounds of various instruments. The distinctive voice of the horn soon becomes familiar as it weaves among the saxophones and trumpets and takes its turn among the soloists."
